Gaetano and Krstović on Target at the Meazza, but Milan Edge It 3-2
Zappacosta Goes Close to a Late Leveller
A spirited final half-hour was not enough to complete the comeback as Atalanta fell to a 3-2 defeat against Milan at the Stadio Meazza on Matchday 7 of the 2026/27 Serie A Enilive season. Gaetano and Krstović were on target for the Nerazzurri, who also came agonisingly close to making it 3-3.
The game got off to an evenly contested start, with Milan threatening through Pulisic in the 13th minute, only for the American's goal to be ruled out for offside. Atalanta responded in kind and nearly took the lead in the 19th minute when Krstović surged forward and rounded Maignan, but could only find the side-netting from a tight angle. Sarri was then forced to replace the injured Kolašinac after 20 minutes, bringing on Obrić for his First Team debut. Milan broke the deadlock in the 24th minute through a Ramos penalty, awarded following a VAR review for handball. Before the break, the hosts doubled their lead as Rabiot found the bottom corner with a right-footed effort.
In the second half, Milan were awarded another penalty following a VAR review for handball. Ramos stepped up once again, but Carnesecchi guessed correctly and saved the Rossoneri striker's spot-kick in the 57th minute. However, Milan made it 3-0 from the resulting corner, with Gila powering a downward header into the net. Atalanta responded, with Krstović rattling the post with a fierce effort in the 63rd minute. Just three minutes later, the Nerazzurri pulled one back as Zalewski picked out Gaetano in the heart of the box, and the midfielder beat Maignan with a left-footed diagonal finish to make it 3-1. The Nerazzurri kept pushing, with Samardžić finding space for a shot but firing over the bar. In the 82nd minute, Atalanta reduced the deficit further as Bellanova burst forward down the right and cut the ball back for Krstović, who turned it home to make it 3-2. The Nerazzurri stepped up the pressure and nearly drew level just a minute later, when Zalewski played Zappacosta through one-on-one with Maignan, but the Milan goalkeeper spread himself to block the effort and preserve his side's lead. Carnesecchi then denied both Jashari and Ramos in the closing stages. Atalanta pushed until the final whistle but were unable to complete the comeback.
Attention now turns to Ajax, with the Nerazzurri set to return to training tomorrow morning at the Centro Bortolotti behind closed doors.
