Franchi game settled by a brink-of-halftime goal
Fiorentina 1-0 winners on MD30
With a goal at the end of the first half proving to be the eventual match-winner, the 2024/25 Serie A Enilive MD30 sees Fiorentina take a 1-0 win at the Franchi stadium.
A closely contested match, the first half went by with the Nerazzurri pushing forward but lacking the luck to capitalize: after Ranieri denied Lookman with an 11th-hour save on 18 minutes, the Nerazzurri went close again just after the half-hour mark with a swift give-and-go between Bellanova and De Ketelaere, with the latter sending the wingback down the right; however, the home defence proved itself well alert and cut out the potential assist to Lookman. Breaking the deadlock right at the threshold of halftime, the hosts took the lead with Kean in the 45th minute.
The second half opened up with Gudmundsson's chip drifting over the crossbar and with Carnesecchi springing into action to deny Fagioli's right-footed curler. While the Nerazzurri stepped on the gas on the lookout for the equaliser, Fiorentina gave tit for tat with Kean's right-footer (sailing over) before De Ketelaere's diagonal effort missed the target drifing wide. On 72 minutes, Carnesecchi stepped up to keep Ranieri at bay with a double save. With no further chances, Fiorentina imposed themselves 1-0 at the Franchi.
