Atalanta v Venezia: pre-match notes
Stories and trivia to set the scene for the Nerazzurri’s return to action after the international break
Time to fire up the engines again. After three weeks shaped by international duty, Atalanta return to action on Monday 12 October, with the New Balance Arena providing the starting point. At 18:30 CEST, the Nerazzurri will host Venezia on Matchday 6 of the 2026/27 Serie A Enilive season, kicking off an October schedule that will gather pace from here on in across both league and Conference League action.
The clash with the Arancioneroverdi will therefore open a packed autumn schedule. Ahead of kick-off, it’s time for stories, stats and trivia to set the scene for Atalanta-Venezia.
Monday makes its debut
The 12 October fixture will bring a small first to the history of Atalanta-Venezia in Bergamo. Across the 26 previous competitive meetings hosted by the Nerazzurri, the two sides have never faced each other on a Monday. Sunday has long been the fixture’s natural habitat, accounting for no fewer than 18 meetings, compared with three on Tuesdays and two apiece on Wednesdays and Thursdays.
It took until the most recent meeting, on 1 March 2025, for Atalanta and Venezia to face off on a Saturday. Having added Saturday to the list last time out, the fixture will now tick off another box on the calendar: Monday will become the sixth different day of the week to host Atalanta-Venezia in Bergamo, leaving Friday as the only absentee.
The Nerazzurri pulled out all the stops, but despite their efforts, they couldn’t find the back of the net: Atalanta vs. Venezia FC finished in a 0-0 draw.
A SuperMario hat-trick special
Five goals against Venezia: no player in the history of the fixture has scored more than Mario Pašalić. Three of those came in the same game, on 30 November 2021, when the Croatian accounted for three of Atalanta’s four goals in a 4-0 win in Bergamo, completing the second hat-trick of his career after his treble against Brescia in July 2020.
Before SuperMario, only Karl Aage Hansen had managed a hat-trick against the Lagunari. That came on 1 January 1950, when the Dane scored all three Nerazzurri goals in a 3-1 Atalanta win. Two Bergamo hat-tricks, separated by almost 72 years.
Atalanta 4-0 Venezia, highlights
An autumn affair
Atalanta-Venezia has something of an autumnal streak. No other season has staged the fixture as often, with 11 competitive meetings taking place between September and November, ahead of winter, spring and summer.
The 12 October clash will take that tally to 12 while also marking a return 64 years in the making: the last Serie A Atalanta-Venezia played in Bergamo in October dates back to 7 October 1962, when the sides met on Matchday 4 and played out a 2-2 draw. Mereghetti converted from the spot to cancel out Venezia’s opener before Domenghini struck the final equaliser in the 89th minute. No other top-flight meeting between the sides in Bergamo has fallen in October since: a chapter that will reopen on 12 October after more than six decades.
